The effects of Hurricane Irma continue, and the American Red Cross is part of a large team of partners who have launched a massive relief response to provide safe shelter, food and comfort to people affected by the storm.

In Florida, people are still dealing with river flooding, power outages, fuel shortages and closed highways. In some counties, evacuations and curfews remain in effect, along with boil water advisories. In the Florida Keys, officials estimate that 25 percent of the homes are destroyed and 90 percent damaged.

In Puerto Rico, more than 180 people spent the night in 4 shelters. As many as 950 households received major damage. The Red Cross is also providing support to evacuees from other islands, including food and water, personal hygiene supplies and comfort. Volunteers are at local hospitals, the San Juan International Airport and meeting people arriving on cruise ships.

On the U.S. Virgin Islands, almost 200 people spent the night in 4 shelters. The Red Cross is mobilizing a robust response to provide comfort, food and supplies. Feeding teams are deployed to St. John. Damage assessment is beginning in areas that were inaccessible. Relief supplies will be deployed to a new warehouse on St. Thomas.

There is a massive Red Cross relief effort underway across multiple states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Overnight, more than 10,300 people were provided refuge from Hurricane Irma in more than 120 government and Red Cross evacuation centers across 4 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. This includes:

In Florida, more than 9,100 people in 94 evacuation centers.

In Georgia, more than 650 people in 11 evacuation centers.

In Alabama, 110 people in 2 evacuation centers.

On the U.S. Virgin Islands, nearly 200 people in 4 evacuation centers.

In Puerto Rico, about 180 people in 4 evacuation centers.

In Tennessee, nearly 80 people in 5 evacuation centers.

To date, evacuation centers have provided more than half a million (517,000) overnight stays to people needing a safe place to go.

Served more than 354,000 meals and snacks to date.

Mental health and health services professionals have provided more than 11,400 contacts to provide support and care to those affected.

More than 2,900 Red Cross workers are responding to Irma now, with almost 380 more volunteers on the way.

More than 90 emergency response vehicles have been activated to help.
